Horizons

This group of work celebrates the many beautiful horizons I have looked to in my life, which always leave me contemplative and filled with wonder. Together, these pieces feature a recent poem written to capture my thoughts and the many dreams I have for my eldest daughter.

When she was only 9 years old, my eldest child bravely told us they were not the boy we saw before us – they were, in fact, a girl. Thus began a long journey of learning, loving, and supporting her in every way we could.

This series of paintings features images I’ve captured of the beauty found in nature that I see all around me. These images are further enhanced with paint, pen strokes, and words from a poem about my incredible journey with my child. Beauty and poetry can be found during moments full of love and moments full of fear. Beauty and poetry can be found all around us.

I am full of hope, looking towards the horizon for a life full of love, acceptance and endless adventure for my daughter and all my children.

Each piece is on a 1.5” deep wood cradled board with hanging hardware and wall cushions.

When all is heavy, I look beyond
Into the distance
Lifting my eyes to see
Brilliant, endless skies

Finding beauty in the details
Light that pushes through the darkness
Dancing winds and waters
The ever-shifting colours

Golden hues
Reflections and ripples
Contrasting light and dark

Gazing into the distance
My dreams unfold
They dance, they twist, they twirl
Hope unfurls in front of me
An ever-changing tapestry

Dreaming…
A life that is full
A love that is pure
A world full of light and laughter

My heart fills with hope
My heart opens wide
My heart sings
My heart soars

Let it all go
Lift the heaviness
Open my heart wide
See everything that could be

Embrace the beauty
Beauty all around
Breath in every moment
